I grew up in the sub-tropics of the Australian east coast and spent the last 3 years living on the equator, then I moved straight into a Midwest U.S. winter! I was dreading the acclimatisation phase; getting out of bed early on frosty mornings to shovel my driveway, and having to drive on the other side of the road in the snow! Three months later I can report that I hire someone else to plough my drive, I have my local driver’s license and mother earth cut me some slack by sending in a mild winter. She is also sending me some beautiful days painted in white with ice and snow.
Update: It’s now been four Midwest winters – and counting! While I haven’t grown any more fond of the cold, I have added to my collection of frosted beauty below. There seems to be just two or three magical days a year, with not a breath of wind and the snow settles on every surface, creating a winter wonderland. Most of the time its just grey skies, dead looking trees and slush. But when it happens, it really is wonderful. Enjoy!
Peace, love & inspiring travel,
